Nick MacShane

Progress Partners
Founder and Senior Managing Director
Nick founded Progress Partners in 2002, driven by his commitment to the power of the free media as one of America’s most important exports. He has since spent the last two decades building, investing in and advising media and marketing technology companies, cultivating a strong network of ad agencies, media companies and advertising brands while helping to shape the rapid evolution of the industry.

In addition to having closed dozens of digital media deals with Pandora, AOL, Comcast, Raycom and more, plus with financing for Tremor Media, ContextWeb and other marquee brands, he also worked alongside his partners to launch Progress Ventures, now in its fourth $35 million fund, focused on high-growth opportunities in the adtech/martech and media technology space. Several of his early investments have since gone on to achieve over $1 billion valuation. He is a founding member of Progress Acquisition Corp, a $172.5 million SPAC.

Where other bankers are a hammer and every deal is a nail, Nick goes beyond the transaction, fundamentally invested in serving the best interest of all parties and helping the business to evolve. With a penchant for identifying and articulating the virtues of every business he represents, Nick is creative and resourceful, finding buyers, investors and partners where others wouldn’t even think to look.

Prior to launching Progress Partners, Nick’s career included work as CMO of Scotia Pharmaceuticals, which sold to GNC, Product and Marketing Manager at MyWay.com (a division of CMGi) and VP of Marketing at Virtual Access Networks. He currently serves on several Boards including on recent VoiceTech investments, Instreamatic and Disruptel. Nick currently holds investments in 20+ early-stage companies, both personally and through Progress Ventures.

As a child, Nick grew up in New York and Rome, Italy before returning to the U.S., where he attended Skidmore College. He had a brief stint in New York mayoral politics before moving to Boston where he raised his family. Today he has three adult children, and when he’s not working on renovations to his home with his fiancé, Christine, he loves rooting for Tom Brady, even in Tampa Bay, and the New England Patriots.
